Zen Centrum Amsterdam

Zen Centrum Amsterdam offers a place to meditate each morning, seven days a week, throughout the year, and on Monday, Thursday and Friday evenings. On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings there is Zen meditation with dharmatalk (teaching) and on Tuesday Buddhist service in Dutch. On these evenings you have the opportunity of a formal, individual interview (daisan) with a Zen teacher (in English, if you like).


The mornings and Friday evenings are free of charge. A small donation is welcome. A subscription for weekly attendance on Monday or Thursday evening is possible. The suggested donation is € 50 per month. Morning sessions are from 8 till 9 am (on sunday from 8.30 am till 9.30 am). Evening sessions from 8 till 10 pm (on Friday till 9.30 pm).


Series of introductory meetings and follow-up meetings Zen meditation start three times a year, on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evening from 6.00 till 7.30 pm. All meetings are in Dutch. Individual guidance in English is possible when needed.


Niko Sensei is the spiritual leader. Teachings are given by him and by Joke Huiberts, Lolit ten Hengel en Marieke Heijman.

International Sangha

Zen Centrum Amsterdam is part of the international Kanzeon Sangha, with Zen groups in various European countries and in the United States. Headquarters of the international Kanzeon Sangha is the Kanzeon Zen Center Utah in Salt Lake City, USA. Genpo Merzel Roshi is its spiritual leader. In 2004 Niko Tydeman received Shiho (Dharma transmission) from Genpo Roshi.
